Design Lanka

when I grow up
i wanna be famous
i wanna be a star
a Paradise Road shop....

Paradise Road = Contemporary Design
= use of traditional design/ knowledge to make products for urban lifestyles

alphabet plates

the flagship store at Dharmapala Road, Colombo is housed in a beautiful bungalow
the trellis & ceiling lace details are a joy to see in many buildings

the cock - a symbolic entrance feature

the cock at the porch, the entry is into a warm red room filled with fragrances & larger than life carvings
you'd want to stay there for ever

peacock, cows, ganesha, horse are highlights in the space

typically in Sri Lankan houses/ big stores have fine wood cravings on the ventilators
the range of products include candles, soaps, wooden accessories - door stoppers, old pieces, etc. glass lamps, a range of statues, etc.

the staircase to the first floor is a store house of old statues leading to
the furnishing sections, ceramics, stationary, beachwear & the cafe,

another special feature is the White room - it hosts a chandelier made of ceramic cups
& not to be missed the cafe`

the Paradise Road concept has been evolved under Shanth Fernando, with a single minded pursuit of design & quality.
Shanth's experience is vast - hotels, travel across the globe Netherlands, Australia
all this culminates into Paradise Road

the color scales of Paradise Road
the design philosophy revolves around using monotones black & white, neturals
while colors are a highlight

Also enjoyed the good fortune to visit The Villa Bentotta, Mohotti Walauwa, Bentotta
the boutique hotel
developed in collaboration with Geoffery Bawa

though we did not stay enough to enjoy the sublime peace of this space
I am sure to visit again soon ...
