The TAJ Mumbai

The Taj Mahal Hotel, Bombay was born out of Jamsetji N. Tata’s dream - the commercial capital of India, required a grand hotel, one that would enhance its reputation amongst the great cities of the world.
Well also cos Indians were not permitted entry into the Waston Hotel in those times.

The Taj first opened to guests in December 1903...
Built by Indian Architects and english engineers ....the Tatas still believe in using Indian capability eg: the Indica and the Nano!

Built in 1903, the hotel is an architectural marvel and brings together Moorish, Oriental and Florentine styles
and
Offering panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and the Gateway of India, the hotel is a gracious landmark of the city of Mumbai,
was built 20 years before the Gateway of India!!

Interestingly Ratan Tata is the only person who has come out to say that warnings were issued about a possible terror attack, this was to be around September 11.
The hotel thus had a sniffer dog at the entrance.
The terrorists killed the dog and trainer
more....

We are working to restore a symbol of Mumbai's enduring spirit and dignity.
